Sadly Bill is no longer with us. His book has already proven a great success and will serve as a lasting memory to him and all like him who bravely gave all in their fight for our freedom. It truly is a remarkable story from a remarkable man.

The following are genuine comments recently received regarding the story -

It is without any doubt the most realistic and personal insight I have read (perhaps with the exception of Pierre Closterman & Geoffrey Wellum - but even they would only equal it!). It pulls no punches and keeps you rivieted. What more could you ask for?
Absolutely TOP notch. Excellent personal account of some harrowing experiences! So easy to read too - and addictive! I read it fully in 2 nights - and have since read it again! Superb..... and what an amazing story.....

SYNOPSIS

With years of sea-faring experience, Sgt “Bill” Bailey arrives in Cairo in 1942 as a new recruit to the R.A.F., hoping to fulfil a lifelong ambition to fly. Within hours of arrival he is sent on a bombing mission that rapidly turns from success to danger, culminating in a disaster from which he is the only survivor. Against all odds, he emerges relatively unscathed from days of isolation in the desert. His ensuing wartime experiences use up several more of his nine lives on other bombing raids and unusual posts, where he always has to learn something new, often at high speed in unusual circumstances.

This direct and honest account of a true experience vividly conveys the extraordinary dangers to which servicemen were exposed. Above all, the understated narrative tells the story of a modest, humorous man coming to terms with having to learn to cope as best he can when suddenly subjected to intense pressure in the most life-and-death situations.

REVIEWS

ALONE I FLY RECEIVES CELEBRITY REVIEW PLUS ROYAL READER!

THE Bill Bailey - that comedian, musician and actor from TV programmes such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Black Books has read Alone I Fly and was very complimentary. Bill's own website says of the book - A vivid and honest account of his truly extraordinary experience, this is a unique and memorable book....Bill read the book himself and loved it, finding it gripping, and a fascinating picture of wartime life.

PLUS we sent Prince William a copy and the reply from his secretary reads -
Sergeant Bailey's account of his RAF experiences looks absolutely fascinating and I know that The Prince is looking forward to reading the story.

HERE ARE WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT THE BOOK -

This is one of the best WWII aircrew memoirs I have read. Bill has written a very readable account of his life on active service in the RAF. It is both humorous and poignant, but never maudlin.
Alone I Fly is an account of how an ordinary chap muddled his way through the war in the most extraordinary way, despite those in authority not making it easy. To me, Bill and those like him, across all the services, were the real heroes of the war; they volunteered for active service and then did what was asked of them to the best of their ability.
If you have an interest in WWII, aircrews, North Africa, Wellington bombers or Malta – or you like a damn good read – then buy this book; you will not be disappointed...John H UK

This is as good a WW2 aviation book as ANY I have read. Lately Ive had 3 or 4 books on the go which I've left unfinished. This has gripped me and I can’t wait to finish it…… It really was a great read. The gentleman’s unassuming good natured character shines through on every page. Please support this book….. Trust me on this one just BUY it!! HIGHLY recommended. John, Ireland

'Alone I Fly' is an expression of the beauty of a spirit, generously prepared to reveal their own human frailty and uncertainty... . I  shall never take a tin of sardines for granted again! In addition, the imagery communicated in 'Alone I Fly' is just brilliant... Alison Terry, UK

I must say, the book is great. I was only going to read a few pages to gauge if Alex would be able to read it easily but couldnt put it down, I think people of all ages and backgrounds would find it an absolutely fabulous read. The book is extremely well written, and written from the heart! I will certainly be recommending it to all my friends and family. I'm so glad that I came across it, I'm sure it was meant to be......Sarah, UK

alone I fly Bill in Waterstones Worthing on a publicity shoot.

Bill was delighted when his local branch of Waterstones recognised the merits of his book and are now selling it (Worthing branch). The local newspaper, "Worthing Herald" also ran a feature on his achievment

Bill worked on this book for many years and was rightly proud of his achievment and readers will get as much enjoyment reading it as he did writing it. Sadly Bill passed away aged 85 after a long illness on July 23rd 2007 at Worthing hospital. He bravely fought his illness with the same determination and spirit you will find in his writing. Thankfully he suffered little in his last days and we are very fortunate that this amazing story will live on as his lasting legacy. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years marriage as well as 2 daughters, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
